I mean if cleaning all this black shit off the crank position sensor doesn’t do it then who knows. After my car ran great with a few other minor cleaning of things for a few days I tried to start it up yesterday to get some wild idling going on. Jumping up a few thousand rpm to almost stalling idling. Decided not to try and drive it, took my roommates car and biked to work today. Got back and went to move it in to the garage and was surprised to find it idling perfectly fine. But I went ahead and tackled cleaning the cam position sensor, a few minor specs of black stuff, and the crank position sensor, what you see above just absolutely covered. It should not look like this at all. Cleaned it up and now praying that there isn’t some other issue that will pop up.

Total cost: FREE + some exercise biking to and from work

Crank position sensor is dirty? That’s a major problem. Not confusing it for the cam sensor?

What car is it? The crank sensor on my car gets it’s signal from the flywheel, so if there’s any stuff floating around in there that can get on the sensor, that’s immediately a rear main seal issue.

03 WRX. Definitely the crank sensor. Sits right behind the crank pulley. Cam sensor was over on the side and fairly clean

Ah, those witchcraft based oil burners. I’m not so familiar with them.

Hopefully at worst a replacement sensor fixes it.
